Gingerbread Bear Cookies
Recipe Ingredients:
| 1 | cup | butter |
| 2/3 | cup | packed brown sugar |
| 3/4 | cup | corn syrup |
| 1 | egg, beaten | |
| 2 | tsp | vanilla extract |
| 4 | cup | all purpose flour |
| 2/3 | tsp | baking soda |
| 1 | tsp | cinnamon |
| 1/2 | tsp | ground ginger |
| 1/2 | tsp | ground cloves |
| 1 | can | store bought frosting |
| food coloring, if desired |
Recipe Instructions:
| 1. | In a medium saucepan, stir together the margarine, brown sugar, and molasses over medium heat until dissolved. Pour into a large mixing bowl and let cool for 5 minutes. |
| 2. | Stir the egg and vanilla into the melted mixture until smooth. Sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves; stir into the wet mixture. Cover and chill dough for a few hours or overnight. |
| 3. | Preheat oven to 325F (165C). On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into bear shapes with a cookie cutter and place onto an ungreased cookie sheet. |
| 4. | Bake for 10 to 15 minutes in preheated oven - cookies should be firm. Add food coloring to frosting while cookies are cooling. After cookies are cool add frosting as desired. Makes 3 dozen. |
