Festive Filled Bars
Recipe Ingredients:
| 2 | cup | oats, uncooked |
| 1 1/2 | cup | flour |
| 1 | cup | chopped nuts |
| 1 | cup | packed brown sugar |
| 1 | tsp | baking soda |
| 3/4 | tsp | salt |
| 1 | cup | margarine, melted |
| 2 | Tbsp | vegetable shortening |
| 1 1/2 | cup | M&M's |
| 1 | can | sweetened condensed milk |
Recipe Instructions:
| 1. | Combine oats, flour, nuts, sugar, baking soda and salt; mix well. Add margarine and mix until dry ingredients are thoroughly moistened and mixture resembles coarse crumbs. |
| 2. | Reserve 1 1/2 cups of the mixture. Press remaining crumb mixture into bottom of greased 15 1/2 x 10 1/2-in. pan. Bake at 375F for 10 minutes. |
| 3. | Melt shortening in saucepan until warm. Add 1 cup M&M's; continue cooking over very low heat, stirring constantly with metal spoon and pressing M&M's with back of spoon to break up. |
| 4. | When chocolate mixture is almost melted, remove from heat. Stir in sweetened condensed milk; mix well. |
| 5. | Spread chocolate mixture over partially baked crust to within half inch of edge. Combine reserved crumb mixture and remaining M&M's. Sprinkle evenly over chocolate mixture, pressing lightly. |
| 6. | Continue baking for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Cool thoroughly and cut into bars. Makes 24 servings. |
